You may have recently noticed an increase in fraud alerts or verification messages regarding card activity. These alerts are part of our ongoing efforts to identify suspicious transactions quickly and help prevent unauthorized purchases before they happen.

Fraud alerts can be triggered on chip-enabled cards when the magnetic stripe is swiped in lieu of using its tap-to-pay or chip feature. When a card is swiped, it relies on older magnetic stripe technology that is easier for fraudsters to copy through devices called “skimmers.” These devices are often placed on gas pumps, ATMs, or payment terminals without customers noticing.

Using your card’s chip or tap feature is more secure because chip technology creates a unique transaction code each time your card is used, making it far more difficult for fraudsters to duplicate your information.

To help keep your accounts protected, we encourage you to:

• Use the chip or tap option whenever available instead of swiping
• Review your account activity regularly through online or mobile banking
• Respond quickly to fraud alerts or verification requests
• Contact us immediately if you notice suspicious activity
